The United States has solidified its position as the world’s leading hub for Regulatory Technology (RegTech) investments, capturing a commanding 50% share of all deals in the second quarter of 2026. This performance underscores the country’s central role in the evolving landscape of compliance and financial technology innovation.
Global RegTech Investment Trends in Q2 2026
- Global funding declined significantly, dropping 38% year-over-year.
- US market leadership was prominent, with US-based companies involved in half of all completed transactions.
- Major deal highlight: Copenhagen-based AI compliance platform Spektr closed a substantial $20 million Series A funding round.
Global RegTech Funding Sees Sharp Year-Over-Year Contraction
The second quarter of 2026 saw the global RegTech sector record 169 deals. This represented a modest 2% increase compared to 165 deals in Q2 2025, though it marked a 14% decline from the 196 deals logged in the first quarter of 2026.
Total funding fell to $734.8 million. This represents a steep 38% drop from the $1.2 billion invested in Q2 2025 and a 55% plummet from the $1.6 billion seen in Q1 2026. While deal count remained relatively stable year-on-year, the dramatic reduction in capital deployed indicates a clear trend toward smaller average deal sizes. The market noted an absence of the larger transactions that had driven higher funding totals in the previous two quarters.
US Maintains Top Position, While India Shows Notable Growth
The US retained its status as the most active RegTech market, recording 84 deals for a 50% share of global activity. This is a decrease from 93 deals and a 56% share in Q2 2025, showing a slight narrowing of its lead as investment activity becomes more distributed internationally.
The United Kingdom held the second position, slipping to 12 deals and a 7% market share from 14 deals and an 8% share in the prior-year period.
India emerged as a standout performer, climbing to third place. The country grew impressively from four deals (2% share) in Q2 2025 to 10 deals (6% share) in Q2 2026. This 2.5-fold increase in deal volume signals rising investor confidence in the Indian RegTech ecosystem, even amid a broader sector-wide pullback in funding.
Key Deal: AI Compliance Firm Spektr Raises $20M
Among the quarter’s largest transactions, Spektr, a Copenhagen-based company developing AI infrastructure for financial compliance, successfully closed a $20 million Series A round. The round was led by NEA, with participation from existing investors Northzone, Seedcamp, and PSV Tech.
Spektr has created a platform of specialized AI agents designed to automate critical know-your-customer (KYC) and know-your-business (KYB) compliance processes. The technology handles tasks such as company research, information interpretation, activity verification, and risk assessment generation, reducing analyst work from hours to minutes. Clients include Pleo, Santander Leasing, Mercuryo, Phantom, and Monta. The company plans to use the new capital to expand its platform and accelerate global adoption among financial institutions.
