The Latin American FinTech ecosystem kicked off 2026 with a massive influx of capital, driven by larger deal sizes and a strong concentration of investor interest in mature platforms. While the overall number of transactions remained stable, the total funding poured into the region experienced a monumental surge, underscoring a renewed international confidence in Latin America’s financial technology leaders.
Key LatAm FinTech Investment Highlights in Q1 2026:
- Capital Surge: Total FinTech funding in Latin America jumped by 64% year-on-year (YoY).
- Brazilian Dominance: Brazilian enterprises secured 40% of the top 10 largest deals, maintaining the country’s status as the region’s primary FinTech powerhouse.
- Infrastructure Momentum: Digital payment infrastructure specialist Pomelo secured a massive $55 million Series C round, marking one of the quarter’s most significant transactions.
LatAm FinTech Funding Surges by 64% Year-on-Year
During the first quarter of 2026, Latin American FinTech companies pulled in an impressive $575.3 million across 26 completed deals. This represents a substantial 64% increase from the $351.6 million secured across 27 deals during the same period in 2025.
Interestingly, deal volume remained nearly identical year-on-year, dropping by just one transaction. This indicates that the dramatic rise in funding was not driven by a flurry of new investments, but rather by significantly larger individual checks. The average deal value climbed from $13.0 million in Q1 2025 to $22.1 million in Q1 2026. This trend points to a strategic shift among venture capitalists and private equity firms, who are choosing to back established players with proven business models rather than spreading smaller seed bets across the region.
Brazil and Argentina Consolidate Regional Dominance
An analysis of the top 10 deals in Q1 2026 reveals that capital is increasingly concentrating within the region’s largest and most mature markets.
Brazil successfully maintained its leading position, accounting for four of the top ten transactions in both Q1 2025 and Q1 2026. The country remains the undisputed gateway for financial innovation in Latin America.
Meanwhile, Argentina experienced a notable rise in investor attention. The nation increased its share of top-10 deals from just one in Q1 2025 to three in Q1 2026, signaling a growing appetite for Argentine FinTech solutions despite broader economic fluctuations. In contrast, smaller or emerging markets saw a contraction; Puerto Rico’s presence in the top ten shrank from two deals to one, while Colombia and El Salvador, both of which registered top deals last year, did not feature in the top tier this quarter.
Infrastructure Giant Pomelo Secures $55m Series C to Accelerate Growth
At the forefront of the quarter’s investment activity was Buenos Aires-based payment infrastructure provider Pomelo, which successfully raised $55 million in a Series C funding round. The investment was co-led by prominent venture firms Kaszek and Insight Partners, with participation from Index Ventures, S32, Endeavor Catalyst, Monashees, and TQ Ventures. This latest round brings Pomelo’s total funding to $160 million since its launch in 2021.
Pomelo specializes in providing the underlying infrastructure that allows FinTechs and traditional enterprises to deploy card programs and virtual accounts across Latin America. The company currently supports a portfolio of approximately 150 high-profile clients, including major financial institutions and digital platforms like Santander, BBVA, Bancolombia, Rappi, PicPay, and Western Union. Over the last two years, Pomelo has expanded its revenue by more than 3.5x.
The newly acquired capital will be deployed to optimize Pomelo’s credit card and issuer processing solutions. Additionally, the company plans to introduce next-generation financial products, including stablecoin-native card options, advanced payment tokenization tools, and enhanced chargeback management systems to further secure digital transactions across the continent.
