Just weeks after resigning, Edward “Big Balls” Coristine, a young tech talent from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has landed at the Social Security Administration (SSA). This unexpected move raises questions about the influence of DOGE and its continued presence within government agencies.
According to SSA spokesperson Stephen McGraw, Coristine’s role will focus on “improving the functionality of the Social Security website and advancing our mission of delivering more efficient service to the American people.”
A Surprise Return
This placement comes as a surprise, especially considering the recent news of Coristine’s resignation. Sources within the SSA report seeing Coristine working onsite at the agency’s headquarters in Woodlawn, Maryland, alongside Aram Moghaddassi, another DOGE engineer and former Neuralink employee.
One SSA employee described Coristine as appearing “nervous, almost embarrassed,” while Moghaddassi was reportedly coordinating activities via phone. The exact start date of Coristine’s employment remains unclear.
DOGE’s Lingering Influence
Coristine’s journey through various government agencies, including the General Services Administration (GSA), highlights the widespread reach of the DOGE initiative. Despite initial expectations of a limited 130-day tenure for special government employees, Coristine’s case demonstrates a continued presence, blurring the lines between temporary assignments and permanent roles.
Sahil Lavingia, a former DOGE member, previously noted the lack of clear direction and purpose within the group, suggesting that Elon Musk’s influence was the primary driving force.

Richard Pierce, a law professor at George Washington University, characterized the apparent disconnect between the White House and Coristine’s rehiring as “abnormal,” yet indicative of the current administration’s operating style.
Coristine’s background, including his association with a company known for blackhat hackers and his online moniker “Big Balls,” has raised eyebrows and fueled concerns about the vetting process for government employees.
As Coristine embarks on his new role at the SSA, questions remain about the long-term impact of DOGE and the qualifications of its members within vital government agencies.
