New Site Uses Facial Recognition to ID LAPD Officers

A controversial new website, FuckLAPD.com, has launched, enabling users to identify Los Angeles Police Department officers by uploading their photos. The site leverages facial recognition technology and publicly available records to provide names and badge numbers.

Created by artist Kyle McDonald, the tool aims to hold officers accountable, particularly in situations where they might conceal their identities. McDonald stated the site was a direct response to alleged police violence during recent protests and the LAPD’s perceived ineffectiveness despite significant funding.

“We deserve to know who is shooting us in the face even when they have their badge covered up,” McDonald told 404 Media.

The website boasts a database of over 9,000 LAPD headshots obtained through public record requests. Users can upload an image of an officer’s face, and the site claims to process the image locally, without transmitting or storing any data. The site also warns that blurry or low-resolution photos might not yield accurate matches.

The launch of FuckLAPD.com has sparked debate about privacy, accountability, and the use of facial recognition technology. The site remains active and accessible.
