Reddit Adds Option to Hide NSFW Content on Public Profiles

8233

Reddit users can now better control their online presence with the platform’s latest update, allowing them to hide NSFW (Not Safe For Work) activity from their public profiles. This feature provides a more discreet experience for users who want to separate their professional and personal online personas.

Customizable Profile Visibility

The update introduces customizable profile visibility, enabling users to fine-tune the content displayed on their profiles on a subreddit-by-subreddit basis. According to a recent blog post, this means Redditors can engage in various communities without broadcasting their entire post and comment history.

Key Features:

  • Selective Display: Choose specific communities to display posts and comments from, while keeping others hidden.
  • Full Visibility: Maintain the current default setting to keep all posts and comments visible.
  • Complete Privacy: Hide all public posts and comments, including those made directly on the profile.

Consolidated Profile Settings

All profile settings are now conveniently located under a new ‘Curate your profile’ section. This includes a dedicated NSFW toggle, allowing users to easily show or hide NSFW content and communities from their profile.

Additional Controls:

  • Content and Activities: Manage post and comment visibility.
  • Followers Toggle: Choose to show or hide follower count.

Refreshed Activity Summary

The updated activity summary offers a clearer view of a Redditor’s activity, including karma count, total contributions, account age, and active communities, all based on the ‘Content and activity’ settings.

With these enhanced controls, it remains to be seen whether Reddit will experience a surge in user growth as users gain more power over their public-facing activity.
