A Las Vegas Tesla Collision Center became the target of a brazen attack early Tuesday morning, leaving authorities investigating a scene of vandalism and arson.
Five Teslas Damaged
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), the incident occurred around 2:45 AM at the Tesla facility. The suspect, clad in black, allegedly damaged five Tesla vehicles. Two were completely destroyed by fire.
Police reports indicate the suspect discharged a firearm at the vehicles and deployed Molotov cocktails. Firefighters successfully extinguished the blazes. One unexploded incendiary device was discovered inside a car.
“Resist” Message
Adding a layer of complexity, the word “Resist” was spray-painted on the front of the building. This has sparked speculation about the attacker’s motives.
While police haven’t officially labeled the attack politically motivated, the graffiti and nature of the incident raise questions, especially given Tesla founder Elon Musk’s controversial engagement with the Trump administration’s policies.
Investigation Underway
LVMPD’s Counter-Terrorism detectives responded to the scene, and the FBI is assisting with the investigation. The FBI’s Las Vegas office has yet to release a statement.
Assistant Sheriff Dori Karen stated, “This was a targeted attack against a Tesla facility…We do believe that it is isolated at this time. We do not believe there is further threat to the general public.”
FBI Response
Spencer Evans of the FBI’s Las Vegas office condemned the attack, stating, “To those who might think that something like this is justifiable or potentially even admirable, we want to let you know it’s a federal crime. We will come after you. We will find you.”
Tesla Under Scrutiny
Tesla and Elon Musk have faced increasing scrutiny. Sales and stock prices have suffered, prompting a photo-op with former President Trump. Reports of vandalism against Tesla vehicles and drivers attempting to disguise their cars have also surfaced.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
