In 2023, the bank completed a milestone digital transformation: replacing its legacy core banking with a modern, high-throughput platform. Yet, following this operational milestone, an acute front-office challenge emerged across branch counters nationwide: How can bank tellers seamlessly query 18 years of historical customer transactions (dating back to 2007) without burdening or slowing down the newly deployed Core Banking system?
This operational imperative motivated the inception of the Historical Transaction Inquiry Program (VTDLLS), architected and implemented by Evotek.
Operational Strain at Branch Teller Counters
Prior to VTDLLS deployment, servicing comprehensive customer statement inquiries caused widespread counter delays:
- Operating 4-5 legacy applications simultaneously: Pre-2020 archives resided in legacy database repositories (INQ), general ledger postings sat in ERP systems, 2007-2023 accounts resided on the retired SIBS Core, and active accounts operated on the new Core. When customers requested multi-year audit statements or investigated past transfers, tellers were forced to toggle across disjointed green-screen terminal interfaces, causing frustrating counter wait times.
- The imperative to offload the new Core Banking system: To guarantee lightning-fast throughput for tens of millions of daily live banking transactions, the core database must remain lean through periodic data purging. Retaining 18 years of historical ledger depth inside the OLTP core is prohibitively expensive and introduces severe database degradation risks.
- Urgent investigative and regulatory audit mandates: When handling sudden statutory requests from police authorities or tax departments, cold data stored on compressed tapes required cumbersome manual restore procedures that took up to a month, posing high legal compliance liabilities.

Architectural Blueprint: Heterogeneous Lakehouse to Decouple the Core
Rather than directing resource-intensive analytical lookups to the production Core Banking database, Evotek engineers designed an isolated, high-performance Heterogeneous Lakehouse:
- Federated multi-source data consolidation: The system automatically extracts, transforms, and indexes data from the legacy SIBS Core, the new Core, ERP financial databases, legacy cold archives (2007-2020), as well as interbank Swift telegraphic wires and payment card channels.
- Single Pane of Glass teller interface: Whether a customer provides a National Citizen ID, an old SIBS 14-digit account number, or a newly mapped CIF code (supporting 1 primary ID and 4 secondary aliases), tellers enter a single search input to instantly retrieve unified 18-year cash flow histories in sub-second time.
- 5-year online Swift transfer search: Powered by ClickHouse paired with Hadoop HDFS, the platform provides direct online retrieval for Swift telegraphic transfers (compliant with modern ISO 20022 standards) and domestic interbank wire messages spanning the past 5 years without physical tape retrieval.
- Guaranteed protection of Core transaction throughput: Fully isolating the historical query workload shields the production Core Banking engine, ensuring peak transactional speed and uninterrupted customer service.
Quantifiable Business Value & Operational Metrics
Rolled out across more than 1,000 branch offices and transaction counters, VTDLLS delivered substantial efficiency gains:
- Average savings of 5 minutes per deep statement inquiry: Customers enjoy swift counter service while tellers execute statement reconciliations smoothly without multi-system fragmentation.
- 1,229 monthly labor hours saved: Equivalent to liberating the complete workload of 7 full-time branch tellers, generating at least VND 1.26 billion in direct operational savings in the first year alone.
- Fulfilling investigative audit subpoenas in seconds: Statement extractions for judicial inspections or corporate audits were accelerated from weeks of tape restoration to just a few mouse clicks.
VTDLLS delivers the optimal synergy: comprehensively safeguarding nearly two decades of banking history while enabling next-generation banking engines to operate at peak agility.
