White House Data Breach? Musk’s Team Accused of Secret Starlink Upload

A new report alleges that during Elon Musk’s tenure overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), his team surreptitiously transmitted large quantities of data from the White House using a Starlink Wi-Fi terminal. This installation reportedly bypassed standard White House security protocols.

The Washington Post reports the Starlink terminal, operated by Musk’s SpaceX, was installed in mid-March with approval from the previous Trump administration. However, security officials reportedly raised concerns, and key personnel responsible for White House communications security were allegedly not informed beforehand.

DOGE officials initially claimed the Starlink installation aimed to address Wi-Fi “dead zones” within the White House complex.

Insiders suggest the real motivation behind the installation was to circumvent White House data tracking systems. These systems normally record data transmissions with timestamps and user information to protect against espionage.

“Starlink allows you to transmit data without any kind of record or tracking,” one source told the Post. They explained that White House IT systems typically require a full-tunnel VPN connection for external access, effectively preventing unauthorized data transfer. “With a Starlink connection, that means White House devices could leave the network and go out through gateways,” bypassing security measures.

The alleged incident has sparked controversy, raising concerns about potential unauthorized access to sensitive government data.

The White House has not yet issued an official statement. A Secret Service spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, told the Post they were “aware of DOGE’s intentions to improve internet access on the campus and did not consider this matter a security incident or security breach.”

This revelation follows previous accusations of cybersecurity breaches involving Musk’s DOGE. In April, a whistleblower at the National Labor Relations Board reported “anomalously large data transfers and sign-in attempts from Russia” after DOGE took over the agency’s systems.

As the relationship between Musk and Trump continues to deteriorate, questions linger about the extent of data accessed and potentially compromised during Musk’s time in government.
