Google’s latest AI video generator, Veo 3, unveiled at the annual I/O keynote, is already making waves. But instead of creating groundbreaking cinematic masterpieces, it seems to be honing in on a very specific niche: replicating the internet’s most brainless viral content.
Move over, Sora. Veo 3 is here, and it’s generating everything from mock iPhone unboxing videos to simulated “man-on-the-street” interviews. The results? Surprisingly convincing, yet undeniably…slop.

While not 100% perfect, these AI-generated videos are often indistinguishable from the real thing at first glance. The ability to mindlessly scroll through social media feeds and be none the wiser is now a scary reality.

Even the world of Twitch isn’t safe. Veo 3 can even generate simulated “Fortnite” streams, creating gameplay that never actually happened. The implications are unsettling, to say the least.

While AI-generated filler content might seem harmless, it raises serious questions about the future of online content. With the potential for misinformation and propaganda, safeguards like watermarking become essential.
For now, we’re left to navigate the rising tide of AI-generated “slop.” Whether this is a glimpse into a creative future or just the first course of a never-ending buffet of junk remains to be seen.
