President Donald Trump recently ignited a fresh wave of debate, labeling a widely circulated video – which appears to show a black bag being tossed from a White House window – as an “AI-generated” fabrication. Speaking on Tuesday, Trump expressed concern over the realism of such digitally manipulated content, calling it “a little bit scary.”

The former president firmly asserted his belief that the viral video was a product of artificial intelligence. “That’s probably AI-generated,” Trump stated, explaining his reasoning: “It’s got to be because I know every window up there. … Number one, they’re sealed, and number two, each window weighs about 600 pounds.” After reviewing the footage, which initially gained traction on Instagram via the washingtonianprobs account over the weekend, he reiterated his conviction that it was inauthentic. Trump emphasized his view that AI presents both “good and bad” aspects, leading to “so many phony things” in the digital landscape. He even quipped, “If something happens, really bad, just blame AI.”

Despite Trump’s strong dismissal, conflicting reports and expert analysis suggest the video depicting a black plastic bag being thrown from a second-floor window, near his private residence, may be genuine. Two sources familiar with the situation indicated over the weekend that the footage was indeed real and connected to ongoing construction and renovation activities within the White House.

Adding weight to the counter-narrative, Hany Farid, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and chief science officer at deepfake detection firm GetReal, confirmed on Tuesday that his examination found no evidence of AI generation or digital manipulation. “We do not detect any digital watermarks that are sometimes inserted at the point of AI-generation,” Farid explained. He further noted the physical consistency of elements within the scene, including the shadows cast by the tossed bag, the natural motion of waving flags, and the overall structure of the White House, including the American and POW/MIA flags.

In related remarks, President Trump mentioned that First Lady Melania Trump has expressed frustration over the inability to open the White House windows. “She said, ‘Love to have a little fresh air come in.’ But you can’t. They’re bulletproof,” he recounted. It was also noted that Trump was not at the White House for parts of the weekend, spending Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at his golf club in Virginia. The White House has yet to respond to requests for further information regarding the video’s origin or contents.
