President Donald Trump has once again postponed a looming deadline that could potentially ban TikTok in the United States. This marks the third extension granted since January, giving ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, another 90 days to either divest its U.S. operations or face significant restrictions.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the extension aims to provide the administration with additional time to finalize a deal that ensures the security of American users’ data.

“President Trump will sign an additional Executive Order this week to keep TikTok up and running,” Leavitt stated. “As he has said many times, President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark. This extension will last 90 days, which the Administration will spend working to ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure.”

The initial deadline for ByteDance to comply with U.S. national security concerns was January 19th. This was then pushed to April 5th, and subsequently extended for a second time. This latest extension comes as the June 19th deadline approached.

Previously, TikTok briefly disappeared from U.S. app stores before being reinstated following Trump’s initial intervention. Several entities, including Oracle, AppLovin, and Frank McCourt’s Project Liberty consortium, have expressed interest in acquiring TikTok’s U.S. assets. However, securing approval from the Chinese government remains a significant hurdle.

The ongoing saga highlights the complex intersection of national security, technology, and international relations. The future of TikTok in the U.S. remains uncertain as negotiations continue.
