A group of French Tesla customers has launched a lawsuit against the electric car manufacturer, claiming that the brand has become associated with extreme-right ideologies, impacting their ownership experience.

The lawsuit, filed in Paris, involves approximately ten Tesla leaseholders who argue that Elon Musk’s political activities and associations have transformed their vehicles into symbols of the far-right.

Represented by the GKA law firm, the plaintiffs are seeking termination of their lease contracts and reimbursement of legal costs, citing “direct and concrete” damages resulting from the perceived political baggage now attached to the Tesla brand.

The legal action coincides with a reported decline in Tesla sales within the European Union. Concerns over Musk’s political stances are believed to be a significant factor in the sales downturn.

Musk’s past support for figures such as former US President Donald Trump, coupled with reported gestures interpreted as far-right symbols, have fueled the controversy.

GKA stated that Tesla vehicles have become “veritable extreme-right ‘totems’,” much to the disappointment of owners who initially purchased them for their innovation and environmental friendliness.

Some Tesla owners have reported instances of vandalism and harassment due to the perceived political association, with the vehicles being derisively labeled “swasti-cars” on social media.

Lawyer Patrick Klugman emphasized that the situation is “unexpected and impossible” for French Tesla owners, arguing that Musk’s political positions have disrupted their enjoyment of the vehicles.

Tesla has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit.

Some owners are even resorting to placing stickers on their cars stating “I bought this before Elon went crazy”.
