Tesla Cybertrucks Face Near-Total Recall

In a significant setback for Tesla, regulators have issued a recall impacting nearly all Cybertrucks currently on the road. This marks the eighth recall for the vehicle since deliveries began just over a year ago.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has flagged a potential issue where an exterior panel, specifically the cant rail assembly running along the windshield, may detach during operation. This poses a safety risk to other drivers and increases the likelihood of accidents. The recall affects over 46,000 Cybertrucks.

According to the NHTSA report, the stainless steel strip is attached with an adhesive that may be vulnerable to environmental factors. Tesla plans to rectify the issue by replacing the panel with a more robust adhesive and adding reinforcements, free of charge to owners. Notification letters are slated to be mailed out starting May 19, 2025.

The recall encompasses all 2024 and 2025 Cybertruck models manufactured between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. Tesla reportedly became aware of the defect earlier this year.

This isn’t the first time the Cybertruck has faced recalls. Previous issues have included a faulty electric inverter that could lead to loss of power, acceleration pedals getting stuck, and problems with windshield wipers and the display screen.

The timing of this recall is particularly challenging for Tesla, which has been navigating increased competition and a shifting political landscape. Tesla shares have dropped significantly this year, reflecting investor concerns.

Adding to Tesla’s woes, there have been reports of vandalism targeting Tesla properties. These incidents, coupled with the recalls, paint a concerning picture for the electric automaker.
