Following a series of arson attacks targeting Tesla vehicles and charging stations, Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced that the Justice Department is levying “severe” charges against three individuals. The White House has previously stated its intention to treat such acts as domestic terrorism, underscoring the seriousness with which the government is approaching these incidents.
“The days of committing crimes without consequence have ended,” Bondi stated. “Let this be a warning: if you join this wave of domestic terrorism against Tesla properties, the Department of Justice will put you behind bars.”
Details of the Arrests
The Justice Department has released details about the three individuals facing charges:
- Adam Matthew Lansky, 41: Allegedly threw eight Molotov cocktails at a Tesla dealership in Salem, Oregon, while armed with a suppressed AR-15 rifle.
- Lucy Grace Nelson: Accused of attempting to ignite Teslas with Molotov cocktails in Loveland, Colorado. She was reportedly found in possession of materials suitable for constructing incendiary weapons.
- Daniel Brendan Kurt Clarke-Pounder: Allegedly set Tesla charging stations on fire in Charleston, South Carolina, and wrote profane messages against President Trump.
Each of the accused could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Previous Incidents Echo Current Charges
The details provided by the Justice Department align with previously reported incidents:
- Lansky was arrested for allegedly targeting a Salem dealership twice.
- Nelson and an accomplice, Cooper Jo Frederick, were arrested for an attack on a Tesla dealership in Loveland, Colorado. Frederick allegedly threw rocks and an incendiary device, starting a fire. Nelson is accused of spray-painting “Nazi” on the dealership and possessing gasoline and Molotov cocktail materials.
- Clarke-Pounder was arrested last week and faces federal arson charges for allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at a Tesla charging station in North Charleston.
A Pattern of Attacks
Tesla properties have been targeted in suspected arson attacks across the globe. A website has surfaced that purports to show locations of Tesla facilities and people tied to Elon Musk’s program, the Department of Government Efficiency, with the cursor being a Molotov cocktail.
Government Response
While there is no specific federal law against domestic terrorism, the Trump administration has vowed to prosecute Tesla arsonists as terrorists. The FBI’s joint terrorism task force is involved in the investigation. The administration is trying to rally support for Tesla as a company.
Donald Trump held an event with Elon Musk, where the President said he would buy a Tesla in solidarity with his billionaire adviser. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick encouraged viewers to buy Tesla stock.
