States Sue Trump Over Wind Energy Block & HHS Cuts

A coalition of Democratic attorneys general is challenging the Trump administration’s halt on new wind energy projects, claiming it will devastate the renewable energy sector. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Boston, argues that the indefinite pause on approvals is unlawful.

New York Attorney General Letitia James stated that the administration is harming a rapidly growing source of clean and affordable energy. The lawsuit seeks to overturn the pause, targeting agencies like the Departments of Commerce and Interior, and the EPA.

Separately, 19 states and the District of Columbia are suing over cuts to the US Health and Human Services (HHS) agency. They allege the restructuring has eliminated critical programs, shifting the burden of healthcare costs to the states, according to the Associated Press.

According to the lawsuit, Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr. restructured the agency in March, cutting over 10,000 employees and consolidating 28 agencies into 15. These cuts, combined with previous layoffs, have reportedly reduced the HHS workforce by 25%.

These legal challenges highlight the ongoing conflict between state governments and the Trump administration over energy and healthcare policy.
