Elon Musk’s latest addition to the social media platform X has inadvertently unveiled a surprising reality concerning several high-profile “America First” accounts. A new “about this account” feature, rolled out on Friday, allows users to view the country of origin for specific profiles, leading to some unexpected revelations.

The transparency tool quickly exposed an inconvenient truth for many popular accounts that champion ultra-nationalist “America First” ideologies. As reported by The Daily Beast, numerous prominent profiles, often with large followings, appear to operate from outside the United States.

Key Findings From the X Feature:

  • An account explicitly named “America First,” boasting 67,000 followers, has been traced to Bangladesh.
  • Another influential conservative account, “MAGA Nation,” with nearly 400,000 followers and a bio proclaiming solidarity with President Trump, America First, and patriotic values, is seemingly based in Eastern Europe.
  • A fan page dedicated to Ivanka News, commanding a million followers and frequently posting content questioning the “spread of Islam on American soil,” originates from Nigeria.

The disclosures prompted widespread disbelief and discussion among X users. Democratic influencers, in particular, expressed a sense of vindication. Harry Sisson, a pro-Biden Gen-Z creator, hailed it as “one of the greatest days on this platform,” asserting that the exposure of these foreign actors as attempts to undermine the United States validated long-standing warnings from Democrats.

Despite initial rumors suggesting that Musk might have deactivated the feature after it unmasked some of his platform’s most vocal supporters, the “about this account” functionality remained active as of Sunday, continuing to offer insights into account origins.

This development sheds new light on the potential for foreign influence and the complex landscape of online political discourse, particularly concerning movements advocating for nationalistic sentiments.
