Intel Rethinks Marketing: Accenture In, Layoffs Loom

Oregon Tech, June 20, 2025 – In a strategic shift, Intel is set to outsource its marketing operations to Accenture, leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance customer engagement. This move, driven by CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s cost-cutting and efficiency initiatives, will unfortunately result in workforce reductions within Intel’s marketing division.

The transition aims to modernize Intel’s digital capabilities and strengthen its brand. While Intel acknowledges potential layoffs, the exact number of affected employees remains undisclosed. Notifications are expected to be delivered to marketing personnel by July 11.

“As we announced earlier this year, we are taking steps to become a leaner, faster and more efficient company,” Intel stated. “As part of this, we are focused on modernizing our digital capabilities to serve our customers better and strengthen our brand. Accenture is a longtime partner and trusted leader in these areas and we look forward to expanding our work together.”

Tan, who assumed the CEO role in March, is spearheading a comprehensive overhaul of Intel’s operations. This includes job cuts across various business units, including recent layoffs announced for the manufacturing division.

According to Intel, the decision to outsource marketing is driven by a need for agility and responsiveness. “While we expect that lower costs will be a natural end result of this decision, the reality is that we need to change our ‘go to market’ model to be more responsive to what customers want,” the company explained. “We have received feedback that our decision-making is too slow, our programs are too complex, and our competitors are moving faster.”

Faced with declining sales and challenges in key markets, Intel hopes this strategic partnership with Accenture will revitalize its marketing efforts and streamline operations through the power of AI.

The company also hinted at the possibility of involving current Intel employees in training Accenture staff during the transition phase.

“AI can help us analyze large amounts of information faster, automate routine tasks, personalize customer experiences, and make smarter business decisions,” Intel told marketing workers. “Our goal is to empower teams with more time to focus on strategic, creative and high-impact work by automating repetitive or time-consuming tasks.”

This decision underscores a growing trend of companies exploring AI and outsourcing to optimize efficiency, even if it means workforce adjustments.
