An Oregon Cybertruck owner, Jay, experienced a bizarre issue after a recent service visit: his odometer was reset to zero. This occurred despite having logged 26,000 miles in just five months of ownership.
Jay, who owns a Foundation Series Cybertruck, initially brought his vehicle in for off-road lightbar installation and addressing minor panel gaps, as well as an ABS alert. The service visit, however, took an unexpected turn.
What started as a simple service evolved into a replacement of the entire left body controller, responsible for sensor inputs like the ABS system, lights, and doors. This unexpected repair, however, was only the beginning of Jay’s troubles.
Upon picking up his Cybertruck, Jay discovered a litany of issues: a crookedly installed lightbar, unresolved panel gaps, a new tailgate problem, and dangling interior trim. But the biggest shock was the odometer displaying zero miles, both on the screen and in the Tesla app.
Incredulous, Jay took to the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, seeking advice. His post detailed the ordeal:
“My Cybertruck went in for a spa day and came back a newborn — with a lazy eye and a missing limb… Odometer: ZERO. My 26,000-mile Cyberbeast is now a CyberBaby.”
Jay also included video evidence showing the odometer rolling from 0 to 1 mile as he drove away from the service center. The video also highlights the discrepancy between the zeroed odometer and the vehicle’s energy consumption data, which still reflected past usage.
Adding to the concern, this incident surfaces amidst a lawsuit alleging Tesla manipulates odometers to avoid warranty repairs. While Elon Musk has dismissed these claims as “idiotic,” Jay’s experience raises questions about odometer accuracy and data integrity in Tesla vehicles.
The situation remains unresolved as Jay seeks guidance on restoring his Cybertruck’s true mileage and addressing the other issues stemming from the service visit. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
