Cybertruck Humiliation? Kids Laugh After Tow Truck Tows It Away

A Tesla Cybertruck owner in Ohio experienced a moment of unexpected embarrassment when his futuristic vehicle broke down at his son’s baseball practice. What started as admiration from the kids quickly turned into laughter as the Cybertruck was loaded onto a flatbed.

Frunk Failure Leads to “Limp Mode”

Ernest S. Harbaugh was taking his son to a baseball game when he encountered a problem: the Cybertruck’s front trunk (frunk) wouldn’t open. This wouldn’t be the end of the world, however, while contemplating driving home for a spare glove, the Cybertruck detected an issue with the stuck frunk and went into “Limp Mode,” limiting its speed to 15 mph. Stranded and frustrated, Harbaugh had no choice but to call for a tow.

From Cool to Cruel: Kids’ Reaction

According to Harbaugh, the Cybertruck initially wowed the young baseball players. However, their tune changed when the tow truck arrived. In a Facebook post, he wrote, “28 ten-year-old kids went from thinking the Cybertruck was the coolest vehicle to pointing and laughing as it was towed away on a flatbed truck.”

Harbaugh shared his experience on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners group on Facebook with a picture of the Cybertruck being towed with the caption:

“Emergency, frunk won’t open!!!”

“Is there a way to manually open it???”

“Just about ready to loop a strap through the top corners and tie it to a tree, then back up and rip it off WhistlinDiesel style.

So pissed! My son’s baseball bag was in there, and the freaking latch decided to allow an inch or two of up-and-down movement but not actually unlatch.

I was going to make the 39-minute drive to get another glove back at the house, only to find that despite the frunk not being able to open, the truck was aware it was not fully closed and retracted.

So, while I had problems driving to the game, I was now only allowed a maximum speed of 15MPH.

Tesla service did end up getting in touch with me. After all the screen resets and power shutdown cycles, it was sent to the service center on a flatbed. I was stuck with a $50 Uber bill, and 28 ten-year-old kids went from thinking the Cybertruck was the coolest vehicle to pointing and laughing as it was towed away on a flatbed truck.”

Community Support and Cybertruck Quirks

Other Cybertruck owners chimed in with suggestions, such as using the physical button in front of the bumper, trying the app or touchscreen, or even using a 9-volt battery to open the frunk. However, in this case, it was something that required the Cybertruck to go to the service center for a closer inspection. Experiences like Harbaugh’s highlight some of the unexpected challenges of owning a new electric vehicle.

Not all Cybertruck encounters are negative. In a contrasting story, another owner found a heartwarming note from an 8-year-old who wanted the Cybertruck to be part of his birthday celebration, proving that the futuristic vehicle still holds a special appeal for many.
