A disturbing trend has emerged on Instagram: AI-generated influencers with Down syndrome are being used to sell nudes. This exploitation highlights Instagram’s failure to moderate AI content.
An investigation by 404 Media revealed a network of accounts stealing content from real creators. These accounts use AI to deepfake faces, making them appear to have Down syndrome. The accounts are linked via reused bios, videos, and shared links to OnlyFans competitor sites.
This practice is part of a growing industry where AI is used to replace faces on stolen content. The modified content is then posted to Instagram, driving traffic to adult platforms for monetization. This evolved into “AI pimping,” with courses teaching how to create fake influencers for profit.
Recent accounts target specific niches, including AI-generated women with amputated limbs. The Down syndrome accounts represent a new low. Instagram’s lack of moderation enables content theft and the non-consensual fetishization of fake people with disabilities.
