An email sent to customers confirmed the removal of the “Do Not Send Voice Recordings” option on supported Echo devices. This change is driven by the introduction of Alexa+, a generative AI-powered version of the assistant that leverages large language models from Amazon Bedrock.

Amazon states that as Alexa’s capabilities expand with generative AI features, the processing power of Amazon’s secure cloud becomes essential. Consequently, local storage is no longer supported. All previously saved voice recordings will be deleted after March 28.
