After an incredible 15-year journey through the vast lands of Tamriel, Shirley Curry, affectionately known worldwide as ‘Skyrim Grandma,’ has announced her definitive retirement from creating Skyrim YouTube content. The beloved gamer, famous for her unique character stories and engaging gameplay, stated that she’s “not having any fun with it anymore,” marking what appears to be a permanent departure from her iconic role.

Curry, who is approaching her 90th birthday, shared her decision in a recent video titled “My ‘Goodbye’ to Skyrim.” In it, she explicitly stated, “I am no longer going to be uploading Skyrim” content. A significant factor in her choice, she revealed, is the changing demographic of her audience. She noted that while a “few older, regular viewers” remain, the majority of her extensive 1.3 million YouTube subscribers are now “very young kids, children,” from whom she receives minimal meaningful feedback.

While comments like “Hi grandma” or “I love you, grandma” frequently appear on her videos and garner countless upvotes, Curry expressed that this type of engagement wasn’t the purpose behind her dedicated video creation. She yearned for more substantial interaction, lamenting that such simple greetings “isn’t what I was spending my time on making and uploading videos for.”

However, this isn’t a complete farewell from YouTube. Curry plans to upload vlogs “once in a while” for her “older ones,” specifically targeting “teens and up” who have consistently engaged in genuine conversation. She also mentioned her personal religious blog, clarifying that it’s meant for meaningful dialogue, not simply “hi” messages from her younger fanbase.

The veteran gamer’s video reflects a profound weariness, particularly concerning the disconnect between her massive 1.3 million-subscriber audience and the limited depth of interaction. Beyond the audience issue, Curry admitted to simply having “had her fill” of Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim itself. “This has come to this because I’ll soon be 90 years old,” she explained. She found herself growing bored quickly even with new story ideas and characters. “I’m tired. I’m not having any fun with it anymore. Probably because of all the little kids on there,” she concluded, expressing hope that her older, engaging viewers would continue to follow her non-gaming content.

This isn’t the first time Curry has considered stepping back. Earlier this year, she briefly shifted focus, embracing the role of an “Oblivion Remastered Grandma” to enjoy The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered as a “vacation.” Moreover, almost exactly a year prior, she announced an initial retirement from gaming videos, citing similar feelings of fatigue and boredom. However, given her latest statements and reflections, this current departure from Skyrim gaming appears to be a lasting one.
