Kristin Cabot, the Human Resources Chief at Astronomer, has officially resigned from her position. Her departure follows a widely publicized corporate scandal involving her and former CEO Andy Byron, ignited by a viral moment at a Coldplay concert.
A spokesperson for the leading AI and data-based company confirmed the resignation on Thursday, stating, “I can confirm that Kristin Cabot is no longer with Astronomer, she has resigned.”
The controversy first erupted on July 16, when Byron and Cabot were caught on the “kiss cam” while attending a Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. As the camera zoomed in, the band’s lead singer, Chris Martin, remarked, “Whoa, look at these two.” Both Byron and Cabot reacted with visible discomfort; the former CEO immediately ducked out of view, while Cabot attempted to hide her face in apparent embarrassment.
Martin, seemingly taken aback by their reaction, playfully called them out to the audience, joking, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” This public commentary, coupled with the duo’s awkward on-camera behavior, quickly propelled the video to viral status across social media platforms.
The rapid spread of the video led to the surfacing of details concerning Byron and Cabot’s private lives, including their respective marital statuses. Kristin Cabot, who had been Astronomer’s Chief People Officer since November 2024, is reportedly married to Andrew Cabot, the CEO of Privateer Rum. Property records indicate the couple jointly purchased a $2.2 million, four-bedroom New Englander-style home in February.
Similarly, Andy Byron is married to Megan Kerrigan Byron and is a father to two children. Following the video’s virality, Megan reportedly removed her husband’s last name from her Facebook page and subsequently deactivated her account entirely.
In response to the escalating situation and the perceived breach of corporate ethics, Astronomer announced on July 18 that it was launching a formal investigation into the matter and placed both Cabot and Byron on leave. The company stated via LinkedIn, “Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability.”
Less than 24 hours after their suspension, Astronomer confirmed Andy Byron’s resignation. On July 19, a company representative informed the press, “Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted. The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO.”
Kristin Cabot’s resignation now marks the latest development in the high-profile workplace conduct scandal that has gripped the tech world. Despite the significant internal changes, Astronomer emphasized its continued focus on its core business, stating, “While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not. We’re continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data & AI problems.”
